Our Model of Care

Family SkillBuilders is a strengths-based practice, utilizing evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions. We are adept in using solution-focused models of care that work with the person’s experience while always aware of the impact of trauma. Rather than focusing on problems, which can be discouraging for already stressed parents, we identify possibilities. This restores hope.

Our primary evidence-based practices include:

  • Parent Child Attachment (Relational Co-Regulation)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Collaborative Problem Solving
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Our in-home services incorporate a Family Systems perspective. We gain a better understanding of the family’s strengths and needs when we become guests in the home and learn about family connections that form systems.  Our work is to create change in these systems while supporting positive connections.

Our interventions are designed to assist the family and ensure child safety. We believe the parent is the change agent for the family and is responsible for improving family functioning, so a key aspect of our short term services is the use of focused parent training models.

Family SkillBuilders continues to build upon a reputation of excellence, always listening to create a responsive environment for the needs in our community to bring about change in systems, our agency, and the families we work with. I make all my referrals to their program for parent training and support due to the fact that they are professional, easy to work with and culturally appropriate.
