ODHS Services

ODHS Services

We work with families involved in the Child Welfare System to provide family support either before or after a child removal has occurred. Our program provides safety services and support during the reunification process, including customized, trauma-informed, responsive parenting education. We empower parents with the skills they need to have their children returned to their care or to prevent their children from being removed and placed in foster care.

In-Home Safety and Reunification Services (ISRS)

Our Family Support Specialists work with parents to strengthen their skills and build their resources. The goal of this service is to stabilize the home environment and ensure the children can safely remain there OR to ensure that children’s transitions from resource placements back to their parents are successful.

Our Specialists meet families where they are at in their homes and in the community to support them where they need it most. All training topics are customized based on the needs of the individual family and the family helps their Specialist set service goals.

Referrals can be made by ODHS caseworkers through their local branch. Please consult your supervisor for guidance or visit our Contact page for further questions.

Parent Education and Coaching

Our Family Support Specialists work with parents involved in the Child Welfare system to provide parenting education and individualized coaching during parenting time with their children in the ODHS branch, community, or home.

All training topics are customized based on the needs of the individual family and the family helps their Specialist set service goals.

Referrals can be made by ODHS caseworkers through their local branch. Please consult your supervisor for guidance or visit our Contact page for further questions.

non-offending parenting training

Specialized training and support for parents following an instance of sexual abuse of their child by another parent or family member. Our Family Support Specialists help parents understand the impact of what their child experienced, how to recognize signs and prevent it from happening in the future, and how to repair their relationship and support their child.

Specialized Parent Training (IDD)

Our Family Support Specialists work with parents to help them understand their child’s Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and tailor their parenting style and techniques to meet the needs of their children.

We teach parents about child development, what is and is not appropriate for their age, how their diagnosis may be impacting that development, and how to support their child.

Thank you for your prompt attention to my request yesterday! One of your Specialists was able to meet with the family yesterday afternoon (which is amazing!) and they were in love with her before I even got there to finalize the initial plan. Not only did the family get the support they needed right away and did this ensure I was able to keep the kids in the home, but it made the conversation about what things will look like in the future and court involvement SO much easier when the family had a tangible experience to show how the agency will be supporting and intervening.

I make all my referrals to their program for parent training and support due to the fact that they are professional, easy to work with and culturally appropriate.

    ODHS Child Welfare Caseworker

I worked with a Specialist who was really amazing on a complex case. I always got reports and updates from the Specialist in a timely manner. I wish FSB was on referral more often because your ISRS services are great for families.

Family SkillBuilders Specialists that I’ve worked with have been easy to engage with, both for me and the client. Good listeners, keen observation and critical thinking skills. I’ve been very impressed with FSB’s ability to assess safety and family functioning WHILE considering the family’s circumstances/culture, etc. FSB Specialists have been very solution-oriented, non-judgmental, compassionate, and down to earth. I feel very confident referring to Family SkillBuilders – LOVE your program!
