As a Family Support Specialist, Kylyn delivers Family SkillBuilders’ core services including one-on-one parent coaching and mentoring in the homes and communities of the families we serve, developing healthy family functioning that keeps children safe, teaching household management skills, and addressing safety issues for families with children at home or returning to the home.

Kylyn began their career in social work almost by chance — applying to work at a residential facility supporting adjudicated teens in their early 20s. It didn’t take long for them to realize how much they loved working with people and supporting those who lacked the resources and support to be successful in life. They’ve since worked across many different contexts, from direct support to administrative roles, and can’t see themselves ever stepping away from this field.

Their favorite part of working with families is witnessing that moment when someone feels truly seen — often for the first time. Making sure people feel seen and heard is one of their top priorities in every interaction.

Kylyn has over 13 years of experience in social services. Early in their career, they saw an opportunity to strengthen onboarding and training at the nonprofit where they worked, and took the initiative to design and pitch a new HR/Training position to meet the agency’s needs. They went on to lead that role for several years, training and supporting dozens of staff along the way.

Outside of work, Kylyn is an avid gamer and a firm believer that video games are a valid artistic medium alongside books, music and film. They’ve also been passionate about music for as long as they can remember, playing in their school band from a young age. Today, they play guitar and ukulele and create electronic music in their spare time.
